  39. Description
  40. -----------
  41. Reconcile updates two directory trees you specify. It copies files each 
  42. way until both directory trees contain the most recent copies of all the 
  43. directories and files you want updated. It will also update each 
  44. directory's sub-directories if you wish.

  46. Reconcile will be invaluable to:
  47.  
  48. * People with portable computers or who take work home on floppy disks. 
  49.   These users need to ensure that they are always working on the most 
  50.   up-to-date versions of all files.
  51. * Groups of co-workers in small offices running several computers with no 
  52.   network, who need to ensure that everyone has current copies of files.
  53. * Users who wish to be spared the hassle of either backing up all their 
  54.   files each time, or remembering which files have changed.
  55. * Anyone in particular with large backup volumes, say on a network or
  56.   using the Iomega and similar drives.

  58. The main features are:
  59.  
  60. * Reconcile compares all the files in a pair of directories and marks each 
  61.   file for exclusion, update or copying, according to what you have told it 
  62.   to do. It copies files backwards and forwards until both directories 
  63.   contain the most up-to-date versions of every file you want updated.
  64. * The directories can be on the same drive or different drives.  They can 
  65.   be on any MS-DOS drive on any machine across a network which Explorer
  66.   recognises. This includes drives on remote machines set up using INTERLNK 
  67.   or similar utilities, or mapped network drives.
  68. * It can also look at files in all the sub-directories of the two root 
  69.   directories you specify.  If you tell it to, it will create missing sub-
  70.   directories until both directory trees are the same.
  71. * Reconcile will keep track of the disk space available and will not attempt 
  72.   to copy or update files if there is not enough room for them. It will warn 
  73.   you if there is not enough space.
  74. * You can instruct Reconcile to confirm with you before it updates or copies 
  75.   any file or creates any sub-directory.
  76. * Extensive masking facilities means you can include or exclude individual
  77.   directories, directory trees, file types or single files.  You can specify 
  78.   as many directory or file types as you want to be included in the update or 
  79.   excluded.
  80. * You can select or exclude files by their date and time stamps.
  81. * You can record a set of options in a script file and recall it at any time 
  82.   to repeat the reconciliation.
  83. * You can run Reconcile from the Windows command line so that it will 
  84.   automatically begin a reconciliation when you start it.  You can also use 
  85.   the File Manager association facility to run a script file by double-
  86.   clicking on it (the association is set up by the Reconcile installation 
  87.   program.)
  88. * Reconcile can preview what it would do without actually doing it.
  89. * Reconcile can keep a disk log file (of your choice) of all its updates.

  91. Earlier versions of Reconcile have been in daily use by individuals and
  92. organisations worldwide for more than five years with no problems. The current
  93. Windows version (2.00) builds on earlier versions, but has been rewritten from 
  94. scratch to include new features and improve the speed of operation.  Michael 
  95. Quinion has used this version to update his own files for several months before 
  96. putting it on the market.  This included backing up later versions of the 
  97. Reconcile source files themselves.

  141. Vendors who are ASP Associate Members in good standing are hereby given 
  142. permission to distribute Reconcile.  ASP Associate Members, often called 
  143. "ASP Approved Vendors") in good standing do not need to ask permission 
  144. to distribute this package.  This permission is in effect until or unless 
  145. we notify you otherwise, in writing.

  151. but who wish to distribute Reconcile must comply with the following
